About us
CivilSocietyReporting.org is owned and operated by the Berlin Journalism School. BJS was founded in 1986 and has since educated several hundred journalists. From 2003 BJS on also conducted the Bosch Foundation-funded journalism program “Media – Mediators between Peoples” in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Eastern Partnership countries were included in this program starting with the 2010 cohort.
When Bosch Foundation ended its program BJS engaged strongly in projects funded by German Foreign Ministry. Since 2016, we have successfully collaborated with the Armenian NGO Journalists for the Future (JFF) – which is also partner in our current program, together with “Green Alternative” from Georgia.
In recent years we have also worked successfully with the Donetsk Institute of Information (DII) and the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management (CSJMM/Georgia). With its programs BJS has directly reached about 400 journalists and NGO-members.
The aim of our projects is always to strengthen participants’ skills to provide even more in-depth reporting on important topics through exchanges with experts, advanced training such as in mobile reporting or data journalism, and to offer them opportunities to build networks.
This also applies to our current project “Overcoming divisions through exchange and research” (2022). It brings together journalists and NGO-members from Armenia and Georgia, who are neighbours, but also belong to different economic blocs
